Design Everything at Every Stage: A Guide to Scanifly Design Services

86% of design errors and revisions stem from bad data. Outdated satellite imagery. Measurements taken by hand. A layout that looked fine on your initial design until the team showed up on install day.

Ultimately, a proposal is only as trustworthy as the design behind it, and a plan set is only as good as the data it’s built from.

Scanifly Design Services solves that problem. Not just for one stage of the project, but for all of them. Pre-sale and post-flight. Through to engineering and permitting. One platform and one team, for every step of the way.

Here’s what’s available and when to use it.

PrelimDesign™ Services: For Jobs You Haven’t Flown Yet

Your sales reps need something to present to a homeowner at the first appointment. PrelimDesign Services gives them that, built from Nearmap, satellite, and LiDAR data, without requiring a drone flight first.

Two options are available:

Site Modeling delivers a model with roof outlines, obstructions, and vegetation mapped out. Your rep just adds modules. Turnaround is under 3 hours, with an expedited option at 45 minutes.

Max Fill goes further with the modules placed, shading done, and all roof surfaces outlined. It’s a proposal-ready layout that your sales team can walk into an appointment with. Also, under 3 hour turnaround, with the same 45-minute expedited option.

Scanifly Site Modeling delivers a model with roof outlines, obstructions, and vegetation mapped out. Your solar sales rep just adds modules.

Importantly, neither of these is a finished engineering product. They’re sales tools, and they’re designed to work that way. Get the conversation started, earn the contract, and then go on-site to verify all measurements and shading with a quick drone flight.

DroneDesign™ Services: After the Flight, Built for Confidence

Once your sales rep or surveyor completes their drone flight, Scanifly’s design team takes it from there.

The drone model already captures the full site context: roof measurements accurate to within one to two inches, obstructions, fire setbacks, and real-time shade data. Our on-site DroneDesign Services turn that data into a design that fits on install day, every time.

You have two options available here as well:

Wireframes deliver your 3D model with all roof outlines, obstructions, and fire setbacks already mapped. You just place the modules. This option works especially well for teams selling with drones, where the rep is already at the home, and the photorealistic 3D model is the selling tool. Turnaround is under 3 hours.

True-Up takes your remote layout and automatically aligns it to your drone model. You confirm 100% module fitment before install day. Turnaround time is also under 3 hours.

Granite State Solar and Green Mountain Solar have been using Scanifly’s sales-to-engineering workflow for two years. In that time, they’ve seen virtually zero cases of a proposed system losing panels on install day because they didn’t fit. “I know that every design we put in front of a customer is done the exact same way,” says Eric Kilens, Sales Manager for both brands. “No matter who that salesperson is, the data is going to be consistent.”

On-Demand Plan Sets: AHJ-Ready in Under 48 Hours

Once you finalize the design, our team produces fully customizable plan sets and engineering stamps in under 48 hours, built directly from your drone-based 3D model and onsite data, and then deliver them straight to your account.

These aren’t generic templates either. Scanifly builds them precisely to your company’s specifications.

It’s the same reason GSS and GMS made plan sets a core part of their Scanifly workflow. Before, their post-sale process was scattered: one design tool here, a custom one-line from the electrician there, a third-party engineering stamp at the end. Now everything flows through a single platform. “That’s all been consolidated into one software, and that’s Scanifly,” Kilens says. “It’s helped us gain efficiency internally and streamlined our whole project team process.”

Solar Energy Services put it simply: “Plan sets used to take 3 weeks. Now we go from survey to a stamped plan set in 3 days with zero revisions.”

The Team Behind the Work

There’s a reliable, expert team behind every design services order.

Scanifly’s design team works as an extension of your own. Every account has a dedicated Customer Success liaison available via chat and email. And you’re not stuck in a long queue or going back and forth with a generic chatbot. When you reach out, you get a real person who knows your account and knows solar design.

Customers consistently cite our support as a reason they switched to Scanifly and never left.

One Platform from Pre-Sale to PTO

The workflow is the juice, and more and more contractors are confirming it’s worth the squeeze.

Most solar companies are patching together multiple tools across the entire solar project lifecycle: a remote design platform for sales, a separate CAD tool for post-sale design, a third-party service for plan sets, and someone else for engineering stamps. Every handoff is a chance for data to get lost, a revision to creep in, or a customer to get cold feet.

Scanifly puts all of the critical sales, design, and operations work in one place. PrelimDesign for sales flexibility. DroneDesign for back-end accuracy. Plan sets and stamps delivered to your account in under 48 hours. Digital checklists in Scanifly Mobile to make sure the right data gets collected in the field and documented correctly for fast, frictionless financing submissions.

When the data is right from the beginning, everything downstream gets easier.

TL;DR

Bad data causes 86% of solar design errors. Scanifly Design Services covers every stage of the project, from proposal-ready layouts before the drone flight to revision free drone-based designs to AHJ-ready plan sets in under 48 hours, so your team never has to stitch together multiple tools again.
