An Independent Drone Pilot’s Guide to Working With Scanifly

Thank you so much for your interest in working with Scanifly!

We love working with independent drone pilots, designers, and surveyors to help solar contractors keep up with demand and scale solar energy globally. That said, we aren’t able to work with every drone pilot. This guide is intended to help you identify if working with Scanifly is a good fit for you and, if it is, how to get in touch with us to start the conversation

This guide has the following sections

  1. Who we work with and identifying if you are a fit

  2. What to do if you are a fit to work with Scanifly.

  3. What to do if there isn’t a fit right now.

Who we work with

First thing’s first: Scanifly is a surveying and design technology for solar. Drone imagery is a key requirement of the process, but our core products are solar survey and design tools.

At a glance, we work with two types of people:

  1. Primary: Individuals who fly their own drones and produce PV designs.

  2. Secondary: Trusted independent drone pilots we can refer to our software users.

Primary: People who create solar designs

Our primary users are individuals or businesses that conduct their own solar design processes.

This could occur in a variety of functions such as:

  • Turnkey solar contractors who design in house or in an outsourced workflow.

  • Third party survey and design businesses.

  • Individual pilots who create layouts from drone images.

  • Individual pilots who partner with solar contractor clients that create designs.

If you fit any of the above definitions, you’re likely a strong fit to be a Scanifly user.

Scanifly works closely with its primary user base, including ensuring they have full access to the software and support team.

Secondary: Trusted independent drone pilots

Since drone imagery is a critical part of the design process with Scanifly, we also maintain a small roster of trusted drone pilots we can refer to our customers on an as-needed basis.

If you’re an individual drone pilot with insurance and a Part 107 FAA license, you’re likely a fit to join our roster. Unfortunately, we cannot work with pilots who don’t have a Part 107 and relevant insurance.

Joining the trusted drone pilot list is not a guarantee of work and is only shared when a customer asks for references.

What to do if you are a fit to work with Scanifly

If you’re involved in the solar design process, the best next step is to schedule a demo with the Scanifly team.

On that demo, we’ll talk through:

  • Your business needs.

  • What Scanifly can do for your business.

  • Pricing and service levels.

  • How to get set up.

If you’re looking to join our trusted independent drone pilot list, you can fill out this form to share more about your qualifications and service area. We’ll be in touch if and when there’s a project that matches your talents.

In the meantime, we recommend checking out Scanifly’s drone pilot’s guide to making money in solar and looking into getting NABCEP certification if you are not already certified.

What to do if there isn’t a fit right now

If we’re not a fit to work together at this time, there are a few options:

  1. Bookmark this page so you can check back in the future for updates or to reconnect when it makes sense.

  2. Subscribe to our newsletter so you can keep up to date with insights and changes at Scanifly. You can subscribe HERE.

  3. Reach back out if your circumstances change and you either own the design process or have the necessary qualifications to join our trusted drone pilot list.
